KLIMAX Para el Mundo – an album that enhances all Cuban Music, signed by the genius Giraldo Piloto

11/15/2011

Klimax, one of the greatest Cuban orchestras led by maestro Giraldo Piloto, is about to finish the recording of his new disc, which will be released in mid-2012. In the meantime, Piloto has decided of offer an authentic jewel to all the fans of his orchestra and Cuban music as a whole: “Klimax Para el Mundo”.

Giraldo Piloto, who’s likely to be the best Cuban drummer of all time, is son of the homonymous Giraldo Piloto, worldwide famous composer brought to success by the pair Piloto-Vera.

Thanks to an eclectic and experimenting talent and an entire life dedicated to this passion, which affected him since he was a baby, Giraldo Piloto has managed to brand his Orchestra with a unique and distinctive music mark. The sound of Klimax is in fact the fusion of all the popular danceable music where salsa, timba, rumba, son montuno, Yoruba music and cha cha cha mix with jazz (of which Piloto is great interpreter) and the most widespread streams of international music, such as pop and rock.

A peculiar music synthesis which is remarkably represented in this Album, with a prevalence of Timba (with two great Jazz tracks and a balada) embellished with solos by the great Chucho Valdes, Pupy Cesar Pedroso and Piloto himself on the drums.

New CD from Cuban Klimax – “Solo Tu Y Yo“… what a nice surprise this is…

I have some of their old CDs – not all, but among the ones I have is “Nadie se parece a ti”, and I sometimes play “Cuando yo lo quiera“. But dancers in Denmark have never been too happy about this band… I think Klimax are too complicated in their compositions and rhythms for the Danes. And it is a shame, because I like this band a lot. Especially after that fantastic concert they did last year in Denmark. See the review of that concert futher down.

Anyway, the new CD is still a Klimax CD – but with a fresh sound and very delicate melodies. The super hit “Adios Amor” just hit the roof here in Denmark. But I know for sure that “La Permuta” is also going to be a song I will play a lot at the salsatecs. Klimax likes to play with the music and make funny themes in a song, and I like them for that… Suddenly in a song, an old pop tune appears … or themes from their earlier work are referenced in the new material…

Their singers are excellent at playing with their voices, and I like that too. This time, a few female singers also appear on the CD, one of them Omara Portuondo, she sings the title song of the CD “Solo tu Y Yo“… I know Omara from this fabulous tune “Silencio” she did with Ibrahim Ferrer . She is one of the reasons I got to know about Cuban musicians… Other stars appearing on the CD are Pablo Milano, Luis Fernando, Heydee Milannes, Tania P, Chucho Valdés, and many others .

Great CD – one you will have to buy for sure… I only hope that Klimax will appear in Denmark again very soon./ Salsani ´’08
