When I bought Oye Como Va I did not understand how Giraldo Piloto could surpass what he had done on the previous two albums (Mira Si Te Gusta and Juego de Manos). But now I understand! For those of you who know that I love Klimax, you will understand why I feel that way. OMG! 16 topics! Only a bolero (which is not too bad if you are not looking for pure salsa, timba or some permutation of that)!

As usual, the polyphony of the composition and arrangement of Pilot, in addition to the majestic execution of the material is enough to send you to heaven, get rid of fears, tears and worries. The letter of Piloto tends to be more complex than the ordinary, forcing me to expand my Spanish vocabulary. And one can also expect more than a sexual commentary (see, “In the house there are a million places to love you”).

But what beauty! What a rhythm! What power! It is so attractive to the ear of the listener and the feet of the dancers! There is no song on the CD that I do not like, but above all I like “Regalo de amor”, “Yo no quiero que mi novia sea religiosa”, “Porqué jugamos con el tiempo” y “Una guiñaíta”.” These songs are burning from start to finish, they grab my shoulders, shake my hips and do not let go! On top of everything, everyone has their own style, their unique way of tempting and appeasing the musical senses.

Above all I am intrigued by the layers of the different voices and instruments on the theme, ” Porqué jugamos con el tiempo ” (in the last chorus) and the penetrating rhythm as dances the dances, reflects and connects with the desire to join With letters and arrangement. I love the reverb effect at the end of the verses section. The lyrics in this song are very interesting, in my opinion.

And what about the end of the song, “I do not want my girlfriend to be religious”? The whole song grows to fill up! Guao! “Una guiñaíta” is a theme of pure timba and has all the points in its favor of the good timba and also has a section of mambo just before the end where it gets into a rhythm of R & B (“tú estás pa’ mi, yo estoy pa’ ti”).

If we had to sort the albums based on their level of “danceability”, I would put “Oye como va” at the intermediate-advanced level. This is a fun album with songs that are easy to dance for anyone and others that challenge dancers to come out and demonstrate their style.

It’s to fall in love! All I need now is a dance partner!
